Steamers restaurant in Pismo Beach could get new owners
Steamers of Pismo could soon be under new ownership.
Compass Health Inc. Chief Operating Officer Darren Smith confirmed Thursday that Old Custom House Inc. — the company’s restaurant division — is in talks to purchase Steamers of Pismo and, if successful, plans to remodel and rebrand the 16-year-old business. Smith declined to elaborate on the details of the purchase until the deal closes.
Steamers of Pismo opened in March 2000 at 1601 Price St., in a space that was formerly a tiki-themed restaurant called Trader Nick’s.
The restaurant, currently owned by F. McLintocks Saloon and Dining House partners Bruce Breault and Tunny Ortali, displayed a California Alcoholic Beverage Control notice of ownership change sign on one of its windows Thursday, stating that Old Custom House Inc. has applied to transfer the restaurant’s alcohol license to Old Custom House. The sign is one in a series of steps for selling and purchasing a business that sells alcohol.
According to the extended notice on the California ABC website, an on-sale general eating place license is being transferred from Steamers to Old Custom House Inc., though it was on hold as of March 24 while the latter is in escrow for an undisclosed property.
Old Custom House Inc. owns several restaurants on the Central Coast, including Custom House, Mr. Rick’s and Mission Pizza in Avila Beach; and Ventana Grill, Wooly’s and the soon-to-open Oyster Loft in Pismo Beach.
Representatives of Steamers did not respond to requests for comment on the possible sale.
