Walgreens opening new SLO County pharmacy in old Rite Aid location

Walgreens is moving to open a new pharmacy in Morro Bay — in the building previously occupied by Rite Aid.

The store would be Walgreens’ second location in San Luis Obispo County. It has an existing store at 8005 El Camino Real in Atascadero.

Last summer, Rite Aid left Morro Bay high and dry when it closed all of its SLO County locations, including the pharmacies in Morro Bay and Los Osos.

Now, the former Rite Aid building on Quintana Road may gain a new — though similar — purpose.

Walgreens posted on its website that it was hiring for nine positions in Morro Bay at the old Rite Aid location, 740 Quintana Road.

Those positions include a store manager, a pharmacy operations manager, a customer service associate, a shift lead, an inventory specialist, a pharmacy cashier, a certified pharmacy technician, a pharmacy graduate intern and a pharmacy manager.

Walgreens did not immediately respond to The Tribune’s request for comment.
