Popular Pismo Beach hotels to merge into massive new oceanfront resort

A new resort perched above Pismo Beach is set to open this summer.

Nestled between the Pacific Ocean and the Pismo Preserve, the new Pacific Point Resort combines two adjacent hotels on the cliffs — the Pismo Lighthouse Suites and Shore Cliff Hotel — into one property built for nature lovers, according to a news release.

“With (a) majority of rooms and suites ocean-facing, the guest experience fosters an intimate connection with the coastline’s local wildlife,” Peregrine Hospitality, the global hotel and resort group behind the venture, said in the release.

Spread across 12 acres, the resort contains 170 accommodations, two pools and a sweeping sun deck. Rooms will include binoculars for wildlife watching, and each guest can sign up to receive a “Whale Watch Dispatch” that texts real-time alerts for whale and dolphin sightings in the area, according to Peregrine Hospitality.

The Pacific Point Resort will open this July, the release said.

What will new Pismo Beach resort look like?

With the merging, the new resort will be the most expansive property in the entire city, according to the release.

When guests enter the lobby, they will be met with “dramatic, glass-wrapped atrium” with a striking wood-paneled ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the sea, “bringing the Pacific into full view and filling the space with natural light,” the hospitality group said.

Pacific Point’s aesthetic will incorporate natural earth tones and greenery that accentuate the pop of ocean blue right outside.

The resort will also showcase elements from the area’s extensive wine industry, including an interactive, self-serve “wine wall” where guests can choose different-sized pours from eight SLO County vintages just by tapping a key card, according to the release.

On the Shore Cliff side of the resort, there will be 100 guestrooms and suites that are decorated with funky, nostalgic pieces paired with modern touches.

“The rooms are anchored by layered tributes to local heritage: nightstand sculptures capture the delicate silhouettes of Pismo dunes, while vintage photography honors the area’s soul, from the iconic Ferris wheel to the legacy of local clam diggers,” Peregrine Hospitality said.

There will also be 40 Lighthouse rooms and 30 Ocean House suites that are curated with imagery captured by local artists and photographers that reflect the essence of Pismo Beach surf culture.

“We’ve designed the experience so that our guests don’t just visit the coast; they become part of it,” Heather Stege, the chief operating officer at Peregrine Hospitality, said in the release. “By immersing guests in our marine ecology and local heritage, we’re ensuring they leave as advocates for the region, carrying the spirit of the Central Coast with them long after they depart.”

The resort will also offer a grab-and-go market packed with snacks, sandwiches and drinks for a beach picnic or day hike. The menu will include warm pastries, flatbreads, salads and an espresso bar and wine and beer options.

Right outside, guests can lounge on a large sun deck outfitted with fire pits and family-friendly games like cornhole, ladder toss and badminton, the release said.

Hospitality group invests $50 million into SLO County hotels

Peregrine Hospitality has already infused more than $50 million into San Luis Obispo County hotels and resorts.

The global group is in the midst of premiering three new dining concepts at the Paso Robles Inn, as well as opening the Avila Beach House in July. The Vespera Resort on Pismo Beach is also part of its portfolio.

The Pacific Point Resort will be Peregrine Hospitality’s “flagship opening” on the Central Coast, the release said.
