Bad news for pancake fans: IHOP closes its last SLO County restaurant

The only remaining IHOP in San Luis Obispo County has officially served its last batch of pancakes.

The IHOP located at 212 Madonna Road quickly and without warning closed over the weekend, putting an end to 30 years of the restaurant’s all-day breakfast offerings in San Luis Obispo.

“IHOP guests, this IHOP restaurant is permanently closed,” signs posted in the window of the restaurant read Tuesday. “Thanks for pancakin’ with us.”

IHOP closed its doors at 212 Madonna Road in San Luis Obispo in January 2026 after 30 years in business in the spot. A sign posted in the window of the restaurant as of Jan. 20, 2026, warned guests the location was closed.

The chain, known for its large lineup of various pancakes and breakfast menu, did not offer a reason for the sudden closure.

When reached for comment Tuesday, IHOP franchisee Mark Justice confirmed the closure and thanked customers for frequenting IHOP over the years.

“We greatly appreciate our neighbors’ patronage for the past 20 years and look forward to continuing to serve them at our location on 202 Nicholson Ave., Santa Maria,” Justice said.

The restaurant opened in San Luis Obispo in 1996, at that time joining two other San Luis Obispo County IHOP locations in Pismo Beach and Grover Beach, both of which have since closed.

The recent closure leaves only one remaining IHOP in the area, at 202 Nicholson Ave. in Santa Maria.
