Downtown SLO hat shop closes abruptly. What we know

A hat, clothing and accessory shop abruptly shut its doors after roughly three years in downtown San Luis Obispo — and details on why it closed were scarce.

As of Monday morning, Brixton at 895 Higuera St. was closed to the public, with boarded up floor-to-ceiling windows and a lock on its doors. The sign above the entryway had also been removed, leaving behind only remnants of the letters.

The retail store closed abruptly, with no indication on its social media or website as to why it shut down. Repeated requests from management and the store’s corporate office were not returned as of Tuesday evening.

The Oceanside-based hat and clothing brand opened in downtown San Luis Obispo in 2022.

Brixton’s other stores in Encinitas, Long Beach, Oceanside, Fashion Island and Ontario Mills — all in California — are still open, its website said.
