A new tasting room experience has bloomed in Paso Robles.

McPrice Myers Wines opened its new tasting room on Aug. 8 on its property in the Adelaida District of Paso Robles.

“We really wanted to step it up and have a better place for people to enjoy,” founder and winemaker McPrice Myers told The Tribune. “Our wines provide a great experience. It’s not just the room itself. It’s also everything around it.”

The new tasting room’s bar is supported by wooden barrel staves from the winery, with indoor, outdoor and meadow seating. Hundred-year-old oak trees shade the outdoor lounge seats on a patio that wraps around two sides of the tasting room.

“I’ve sat in every chair, and I’ve looked all around, and every single seat has an incredible view, which is what we wanted,” director of business operations Liz Gillingham told The Tribune. “We didn’t want people to sit there and be looking at a water heater or something when they can look at nature.”

The winery’s tasting room is also called a “hospitality center,” where the experience and space is what counts, McPrice Myers said.

“We call it that because it’s all about the experience, right?” Myers said. “A tasting room is a good name, but really you’re providing a great experience for people. We have a beautiful outdoor space. We put a lot of thought into a really nice outdoor space for people to taste wine, you know, under some beautiful oak trees and some beautiful views.”

How did McPrice Myers Wines get its start?

The 23-year-old winery was founded by Myers in 2002, when the winemaker made wines at Central Coast Wine Services in Santa Maria before moving to Paso Robles in 2008.

McPrice Myers Wines developed its property at 3525 Adelaida Road in 2014, ultimately purchasing the property in 2017, Myers said.

“We’re really serious about what we do on the winemaking side and all that,” he said. “This space says that it’s not fancy, but it’s really well-thought-out and provides a great experience for people.”

What’s on the menu at new tasting room in Paso Robles?

The tasting room’s menu includes five wines that rotate based on the seasons, from McPrice Myers Wines’ list of 47 bottles. For the non-drinkers, a robust nonalcoholic offering includes espresso shots, alcohol-free rosé from TÖST, a non-alcoholic spritz, iced tea and sparkling water.

Light snacks are also on the menu, including vacuum-sealed cheese plates from Alba Provisions. For the bimonthly live music at McPrice Myers Wines, the food menu expands to include crudite boxes and snack boxes with meat, Gillingham said.

One detail the winery is particularly proud of is its restrooms.

Reincarnated from a 40-foot-long shipping container, the three restrooms on the winery’s property have blue accents and are compared to a hotel lobby, Gillingham said.

“I cannot believe it when I go to a nice place, and you go in the bathroom, and you feel like you’ve just walked into the place at the beach where you wash your feet,” she said. “You go in our bathrooms, and all of a sudden you’re in a nice hotel lobby. It’s blue, like calming blue dividers, really nice sinks and fixtures.”
