Remember the Landmark? New hotel takes over historic spot in Pismo Beach. Take a look inside
After more than five decades of history, The Landmark building in Pismo Beach was gutted to its studs and beams several years ago.
The reason? To make way for the Pismo Beach Club boutique hotel.
Maza Hospitality, the property managers of the Pismo Beach Club, bought the 55-year-old building three years ago, according to general manager Christopher Morgan.
Before that it was the Landmark Hotel, later transformed to apartments — and now the Pismo Beach Club at 701 Price St. The boutique hotel is expected to open in the next few weeks, according to Morgan.
The hotel’s name change come from its recognizable location — Pismo Beach — not to indicate it is a beach club, as some people have mistaken it for, Morgan said.
“I actually have been asked that before, like with the word ‘club,’ do you have to be a part of a club to get in?” he told The Tribune. “I guess we do want to reiterate that, no, anyone’s free to book their reservation.”
What’s new in boutique Pismo Beach hotel?
Pismo Beach Club’s renovation capitalized on the Roaring Twenties aesthetic as an ode to the hotel’s roots.
“You feel the history in the building when you’re walking through it,” he said. “And the design that went into it brings you back to the ‘20s, in a kind of nostalgic feel.”
Though it’s going for some nostalgia, the new boutique hotel is more high-tech than in its previous forms.
The hotel doesn’t have a front desk. Instead, virtual booking and keyless entry into the rooms make for a seamless experience, according to its website.
The hotel’s 20 rooms each have a fully equipped kitchen with a stove, dishwasher, dishes and utensils. A separate living room turns the hotel into a mini home away from home, according to Morgan.
Another thing that will draw guests — once it is completed — will be the hotel’s renovated rooftop, Morgan said.
He teased features like astroturf for the ground, glass shield for wind protection on the roof and some chairs for relaxing, but was not sure what other amenities the rooftop may contain as of yet.
“When it is complete, it’s going to be something that guests of the hotel can access,” he said. “We’re hoping to be a destination for wedding groups, booking blocks and be able to host ceremonies up there.”
That rooftop renovation is expected to be completed by the summer, he added.
