Downtown SLO restaurant is on the move — to a more visible location

Quesadilla Gorilla is closed in The Creamery Marketplace — but only because the owners are moving the restaurant chain to another location in San Luis Obispo.

The restaurant, which exclusively serves quesadillas, is setting up shop at 790 Foothill Blvd. suite #140, owners Miguel and Mikayla Reyes told The Tribune.

The Reyeses are currently installing a gas meter to the building and are excited about being in a visible location closer to their desired demographic: college students.

“A lot of the restaurants in The Creamery were more like a destination, sit-down restaurants,” Miguel told The Tribune. “In the evening, they’re all busy — but we weren’t, because we’re that quick grab-and-go, not so much like a sit-down dinner spot.”

The restaurant’s menu includes a build-your-own quesadilla, unique combinations and beer on tap, Miguel said. It will also launch breakfast on the weekends and roll out late-night weekend deals for college students.

“We’re trying to do something that is greater than flour and cheese,” he added.

Quesadilla Gorilla has been publicizing information about the move on its social media, advertising the upcoming grand opening of the new SLO location.

The first 50 people in line on opening day will even receive a free quesadilla and T-shirt, according to its Instagram. Quesadillas will be sold for $6.

The pair was still being secretive about the exact date for the new opening, however.

“We’re waiting on one more thing to get installed next week to solidify that date,” Miguel said. “Stay tuned for updates on our social media.”

A tap takeover is also in the works for the grand opening, where a local brewery will be featured on the menu and hand out merchandise to customers, he added.

Meanwhile, Philly Fire Wings is set to take over the former Quesadilla Gorilla spot in The Creamery. An “opening soon” sign in its window.
