When will Tilly’s open? Teen clothing retailer sets date for new SLO store

A new teen clothing store is close to opening in the Madonna Plaza shopping center in San Luis Obispo.

Tilly’s is set to soft open its brand-new 6,500-square-foot space next to the Michael’s craft store on March 19, according to executive vice president and chief financial officer Mike Henry.

“As a proud Cal Poly SLO alum myself, I am so happy to see us finally having an opportunity to open a new store in San Luis Obispo,” Henry told The Tribune.

Henry said the store will also hold a grand opening event on March 23.

Further details on the event were not immediately available.

According to its website, Tilly’s is “a leading specialty retailer of casual apparel, footwear and accessories for young men, young women, boys and girls.”

The company is headquartered in Irvine and operates 250 stores across 33 states, according to the website.

As of Thursday, the business had listings for a number of positions at the new San Luis Obispo store, including openings for an assistant manager, in-store merchandiser and sales associates.

Meanwhile, there are currently six other vacant storefronts at Madonna Plaza, according to site plan documents on the Schottenstein Property Group website.

Those include Aerie clothing store, which closed in January 2023, as well as the Hallmark shop that closed in 2019.
