2 new Planet Fitness gyms set to open in San Luis Obispo County. Here’s where and when

Planet Fitness is opening two new gyms in San Luis Obispo County by the end of the year.

The company — “one of the largest and fastest-growing franchisers and operators of fitness centers in the United States,” according to a news release — is opening new locations in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero in November and December, respectively.

The new locations will have “state-of-the-art cardio machines and strength equipment, a 30-Minute Express Circuit, rowing machines, fully equipped locker rooms with day lockers and showers, HydroMassage loungers, massage chairs, tanning booths and more.”

The San Luis Obispo location, which was confirmed earlier this year, will be located at 3880 Broad St. in the Marigold Center. The 21,000-square-foot gym will take over the vacant Michael’s property. The 18,700-square-foot Planet Fitness Atascadero will be located at 8200 El Camino Real near Smart and Final.

“We’re excited to bring two new Planet Fitness Clubs to San Luis Obispo County,” Brandyn Lorenz said in the release. Lorenz is vice president of real estate for Grand Fitness Partners, which is a franchise division of Planet Fitness.

“Both Atascadero and San Luis Obispo are under-served markets from a fitness perspective, and we look forward to bringing affordable, accessible and judgment-free health clubs to these communities,” Lorenz said in the release.

These will be the third and fourth Planet Fitness locations in San Luis Obispo County. The others are in Arroyo Grande and Paso Robles.

According to its website, Planet Fitness “strives to create a workout environment where everyone feels accepted and respected.”

According to the release, new members can join the San Luis Obispo gym before the club opens at a special introductory date through mid-November. New members can join online at planetfitness.com/gyms/san-luis-obispo-ca.

Memberships to the Atascadero gym are not yet available for purchase, but those interested can sign up for updates at planetfitness.com/gyms/atascadero-ca.
