Templeton High grad opens women’s clothing shop at a high-profile spot in downtown SLO
A new women’s apparel store — focusing on casual clothing, apothecary products, and home accessories — has taken over a high-profile spot in San Luis Obispo.
Blue Harvest Apparel launched Nov. 20 at the corner of Higuera and Chorro streets in the heart of downtown.
The commercial space is the former location of Fanny Wrappers, which moved a half block up to 856 Higuera St. in fall 2020.
The new business at 799 Higuera St. also has a store in Fort Collins, Colo., which opened in 2014. The SLO spot is owner McKenzie Murray’s second shop location.
Murray, a 2004 Templeton High graduate (then McKenzie Hoffman), said the new venture brings her back to SLO County after living in Colorado since 2006.
“We really hustled to open before Black Friday,” Murray said. “Location is so important, and this is a beautiful building that’s 100 years old, with great landlords. We’re really happy to be here.”

The store features premium denim, hats, dresses, candles, backpacks and more.
“We cater towards all women,” Murray said. “So we have a little bit of everything. We handpick brands that would fit with all different age demographics.”
But Murray added that the typical shopper could be described as “bohemian” and someone who “loves going to concerts, enjoys hiking, and exploring the beach.”
“They’re driven by creativity and wants to just shine and have, like, a great outfit and feel incredibly comfortable and confident,” Murray said.
Murray currently lives in Cayucos with her husband Joe Murray and their 7-month-old daughter.
“We started this business because we just love the idea of inspiring women to find their style, feel incredibly confident about what they’re wearing, and explore new outfits that they would never think to wear,” Murray said.
Murray said all of her products are available online, and phone orders are available as well.
“Our passion is definitely staying with the brick-and-mortar concept,” Murray said. “We just love the in-person contact and working one on one with people.”
The store is currently hiring for sales associate positions and it is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day except Tuesdays, though hours may change.
