SLO County Bed Bath & Beyond store will close — along with 62 others nationwide
Bed Bath & Beyond will close its Paso Robles store and 62 other locations by the end of the year as the company transitions into a “digital first company,” according to USA Today.
The Golden Hills Plaza store, which opened in 2010, is one of six California locations the chain will close in 2020. The San Luis Obispo store on Madonna Road will remain as the only location in San Luis Obispo County.
The chain will also close stores in the City of Industry, Fremont, Mira Loma, Stockton and Victorville.
Bed Bath & Beyond closed 40 stores earlier in the year, and the chain will close 200 stores — 21% of the company’s locations — during the next two years, the USA Today story said. Closing the stores will save Bed Bath & Beyond $250 to $350 million annually.
“In this COVID moment, we believe we can take this opportunity to not just simply close stores, but to pivot and reshape and truly optimize our store footprint,” John Hartmann, chief operating officer and executive vice president, told USA Today. “We continue to believe that our physical store channel is an asset for us, as we transform into a digital-first company.”
