SLO County Bed Bath & Beyond stores escape shutdown — but 40 others weren’t so lucky
Bed Bath & Beyond announced Thursday it is closing 40 of its stores across the United States, but San Luis Obispo County shoppers don’t need to worry: the chain’s two local stores will be staying open.
Company representative Dominic Pendry confirmed the Bed Bath & Beyond stores at 317 Madonna Road in San Luis Obispo and 2449 Golden Hill Road in Paso Robles will stay open.
On Thursday, the company released a list of stores that have already closed or are set to close in 2020. The stores are located in 19 states and Washington D.C.
“We’re continually evolving to serve our loyal Bed Bath & Beyond customers better — whether they come to us at one of our 900+ stores or are one of the millions who shop with us online each year,” read a company statement Pendry emailed to The Tribune.
“We’ve just given over 150 of our most popular stores a multi-million dollar update and are continually investing in our stores and digital platform to give customers an even better experience however they choose to shop with us,” the statement read. “We’re also closing a limited number of stores that no longer meet the standards our customers expect from us, including the locations listed below.”
Bed Bath and Beyond’s announcement comes as several other major retailers have announced closures across the country.
Pier One plans to close up to 450 of its stores, including its Arroyo Grande location, while Macy’s continues to shrink its physical footprint and ditch 29 of its department stores.
Five Bed Bath & Beyond stores in California are set to shutter — in Chino Hills, Encino, Hemet, Santa Clarita and Tracy.
