Jamba founder Kirk Perron died June 20 in Palm Springs, the juice company announced via Facebook on Friday.

Perron founded the Juice Club in San Luis Obispo on the corner of Chorro Street and Foothill Boulevard in 1990 when he was 26 years old.

Five years later, the neighborhood smoothie shop evolved into Jamba Juice, now called Jamba, according to the post. The Chorro Street and Foothill Boulevard location remains open to this day.

“Kirk’s vision and passion for giving customers a fun experience and great tasting smoothies propelled Jamba to becoming the iconic 800+ unit global brand it is today,” the Facebook post reads.

Perron left the company in 2006, but the brand has continued to expand, with three locations in San Luis Obispo and more than 800 around the world, according to the statement.

In honor of Perron’s relationship with the Cal Poly and San Luis Obispo community, Jamba will make a donation to The Jamba Juice/Kirk Perron Scholarship Fund for Cal Poly students. The company did not specify the donation amount.

Jamba Juice did not provide details on the cause of Perron’s death.
