You can soon book rooms at Hotel Cerro in downtown SLO. Here’s when it will open

A long-planned luxury hotel in downtown San Luis Obispo has a new opening timeline, its owners have announced.

The 65-room hotel Hotel Cerro, located across from Big Sky Cafe, will open in January, officials announced in a press release.

A specific opening date hasn’t been nailed down. But bookings will be available sometime during first month of 2020, according to publicist Ann Flower of Venice-based Ann Flower Communications.

The hotel had been projected to open in November, but construction delays and finishing touches on the facility pushed the opening back.

The current price range for opening room rates is between $285 and $805 a night, Flower said.

Room sizes range from 350 to 920 square feet and come with Bluetooth audio systems and HD flat panel smart TVs.

Hotel Cerro amenities include rooftop deck and spa

The “full-service luxury hotel” offers a host of amenities, including a rooftop pool deck with 360-degree views of the hills and an edible garden.

Hotel Cerro’s spa, Spa Cerro, also is yet to open.

It will become the largest spa in the city, offering a “state-of-the-art” 4,000-square-foot facility, open to the public as well as guests and offering a variety of treatments, including massages, facials and body polishes.

“Downtown San Luis Obispo is more than ready for a truly iconic hotel that reflects the area’s unique local character,” Shaun Matthews, Hotel Cerro’s co-managing partner, said in a statement. “Throughout the development, we have maintained an unwavering focus on every detail of the project and how it might impact the guest experience.”

Other Hotel Cerro amenities include: the Brasserie SLO restaurant with Mediterranean-style meals from a wood-burning oven and wood-fired grill; the Sweet Life of Pie (serving pies and tarts year-round): and the Olive Tree space for meetings and private parties.

Olive Tree can hold up to 40 seated guests, or 75 people for standing-room cocktails.

The hotel’s architecture features brick storefronts on Garden Street, and guests enter through the restored 1920s Smith building into the lobby, hotel officials said.

“All accommodations feature goose-down duvets and fine linens over luxurious platform beds, and extra-large bathrooms with glass walk-in showers, plush bathrobes, and Spa Cerro’s own line of natural botanical amenities,” the hotel said in a statement.

New hotels and flights expected to boost tourism

The new venue is the third large hotel to open in downtown SLO over the past year after the 78-room Hotel SLO opened in October near the Palm Theatre and Andrew Firestone’s 102-room La Quinta Inn and Suites hotel opened on Monterey Street near Grand Avenue in May.

The facilities are expected to bring a wave of new tourism and visitor shopping to SLO.

The new hotels come as the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport has added multiple new flights to the region, including service to and from Las Vegas, which launched in October.

A new San Diego flight begins in January, while Portland launches in June.

In December 2018, the airport added a new American Airlines flight to Dallas, a hub that connects San Luis Obispo to dozens of other destinations.

A second Dallas flight is coming this winter, according to airport officials. The airport added a second daily flight to Denver in 2018.
