This SLO County hotel was named one of ‘Today Show’s’ best places to travel in 2020
Only a few months since it opened, and Vespera on Ocean is already making headlines.
The Pismo Beach hotel, which opened in October, was name dropped on “The Today Show” on Jan. 2 as one of the top places in the world to travel to in 2020.
The list, culled from a separate list by editors of Travel+Leisure magazine, highlighted seven of “Today’s” favorite places to travel. Vespera on Ocean was the only location in California, and was featured alongside other destination like the 21 C Museum Hotel in Okalahoma City, Bicycle Street Inn and Suites on Mackinac Island in Michigan, and Cielo Glamping Maritime in New Brunswick, Canada.
“Envelop yourself in the beauty of California’s coastline in this recently opened hotel,” the Vespera description reads. “The gorgeous location feels refreshingly low-key, with 125 rooms and a eucalyptus grove that monarch butterflies flock to in the winter.”
The listing also noted the new restaurant in the hotel, Somerset Grill, which serves “upscale cuisine in a relaxed setting, celebrating the seafood and agricultural bounty that has become a staple of the area.”
“Today’s” shoutout was pulled from a larger list of “The 50 Best Places to Travel in 2020” from Travel+Leisure in which California’s Central Coast was featured.
The list highlighted Cayucos, Pismo Beach (especially Vespera on Ocean, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, Cambria and of course, Hearst Castle.
“Long considered a necessary interlude on the way to somewhere else, this once-sleepy stretch has become a destination in its own right,” read the Travel+Leisure listing. “Travelers are finally catching on to what locals have known long all along: the Central Coast of California offers quiet beauty, agricultural bounty, and some of the best wines in the state.”
The ranking concluded: “With sand and surf, food and wine, stunning hikes, and historic architecture, now is the time to go before the secret’s out.”
