New Jersey Mike’s sandwich shop opens in SLO County next to Dutch Bros coffee
Popular sandwich chain Jersey Mike’s Subs has opened the doors of its long-awaited, newest location in Atascadero right next door to a drive-through coffee chain.
After months of anticipation, Jersey Mike’s opened its 398th location in California on Wednesday at 8304 El Camino Real, in the same shopping center as Food 4 Less and sharing a wall with the new Dutch Bros Coffee shop, which opened in March.
“We’re very excited to be there ... literally just neighbors with Dutch Bros. We love the brand and we just think its the perfect marriage when it comes to what they do and what we do,” store co-owner Jair Paz told The Tribune.
Paz co-owns the Atascadero location of the national sandwich franchise and 10 others across San Luis Obispo County, Los Angeles and the Bay Area with his twin brother, Javier Neciosup. Their sister also oversees three stores in the Bay Area, Paz said.
“We are definitely a family business,” Paz said. “We have a great team.”
How can I visit Jersey Mike’s?
The new Jersey Mike’s shop in Atascadero — located smack-dab in the middle of the existing San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles locations — is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of the week, the store said in a news release.
Guests can place orders in-store or for pickup or delivery to most areas online at jerseymikes.com, through the Jersey Mike’s app or other third-party delivery partners.
Customers can choose a sandwich from the menu or dream up their own — but all Jersey Mike’s meats and cheeses are sliced fresh on the spot and piled high on in-store baked bread — the same recipe that’s been used since 1956, Paz said.
Don’t forget to get your sub “Mike’s Way” — with onions, lettuce, tomatoes and topped off with “the juice,” a red wine vinegar, olive oil, oregano and salt blend.
“It’s what made us famous,” Paz said.
Every grand opening of a Jersey Mike’s store is done in conjunction with a charity, Paz said.
The Atascadero store is hosting a local fundraiser from Wednesday to Sunday to support the Special Olympics, he said. Customers in the community who received a special invitation coupon ahead of the opening can order a sandwich for a minimum $3 donation to the Special Olympics.
“We like to really make our store and our staff and what we do, we like to make it feel like a local community sub shop, and that’s kind of how we carry ourselves,” Paz said. “We’re excited to be a part of Atascadero.”
