SLO airport to bring back direct flight to desert destination. See when & where

San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport is bringing back direct flights to a popular desert destination.

Alaska Airlines will begin offering nonstop trips to Las Vegas in October, the airport said in a news release.

“We’re thrilled to welcome back the nonstop flight to Las Vegas with our valued partners at Alaska Airlines,” Courtney Pene, San Luis Obispo County’s deputy director of airports, said in the release. “This route is more than just a connection to an iconic city. It’s a boost for our regional economy, supporting tourism, business, and local travelers alike.”

Once the Las Vegas flights start up again, the SLO airport will offer direct flights to nine destinations across the United States, including nonstop service to San Diego, Seattle and Portland, Oregon.

Here’s what to know:

Why is SLO airport bringing back direct flights to Las Vegas?

The SLO airport previously offered seasonal nonstop flights to Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas in the fall of 2024.

Service to the sunny spot started Oct. 27, 2024, and ended April 21.

Sin City proved to be a popular option among San Luis Obispo County travelers, the airport said.

“The renewal of service reflects strong community demand and the ongoing growth of the airport’s commercial offerings,” the release said.

The first Boeing 737-800 to provide regular passenger service to San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport touched down on Oct. 3, 2024. The Alaska Airlines jet will provide daily flights to and from Seattle.

When are nonstop flights available?

Daily direct flights to Las Vegas flight will return on a temporary basis on Saturday, Oct. 4, the release said.

As of Thursday, May 15, it wasn’t clear when the seasonal service will end.

“The end date is unknown,” Pene wrote in an email to The Tribune. “Ideally, the airport would love to see Alaska Airlines make this nonstop route permanent and year-round.”

She said the SLO airport plans to meet with the airline to “discuss this very topic.”

What are one-way plane ticket prices?

One-way flights from San Luis Obispo to Las Vegas start at $69, according to Alaska Airlines’ website.

You can book a flight online via alaskaair.com or make a flight reservation at sloairport.com.

The airline has the most most affordable flights on the Central Coast.

As of Thursday, you could fly nonstop to Sin City for less than $50 via Allegiant Air in June and July, according to Google Flights.
