Margie’s Diner is returning to SLO after nearly a decade. See where
After nearly a decade, Margie’s Diner is officially returning to San Luis Obispo.
The popular American-style restaurant was last in the city in 2018, when it vacated its long-time spot at 1575 Calle Joaquin as part of an ownership change and so it could focus on its Paso Robles location. The Calle Joaquin space would later house Taco Temple before that also closed in 2024.
Now, signs have gone up on the vacant IHOP building at 212 Madonna Road announcing the restaurant’s return.
An application to sell beer and wine at the spot has also been submitted to the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, according to a sign posted in the window of the location.
Details are still mum on the new spot.
A Tribune request for comment from the Margie’s Diner at 1135 24th St. Paso Robles was not immediately returned Tuesday.
The business did respond to a customer comment asking about the new spot on its Instagram on July 7, however, by saying “we are working on a new location in SLO!! More details to come soon!”
Margie’s Diner was founded by Marjorie Johnson and her husband in Morro Bay in 1986.
At one point, the couple owned seven Margie’s Diners from Goleta to Monterey, though the number of restaurant’s has since dwindled to just the Paso Robles spot.
