Carl’s Jr. abruptly closes in SLO County city. What about other locations?

The Carl’s Jr. in Arroyo Grande abruptly closed this week, with few details available on why.

As of Wednesday, the burger joint had shut its doors with no warning, posting only a flyer on its glass doors reading, “This Carl’s Jr. is closed. Please visit our other locations in Nipomo and San Luis Obispo.”

The Tribune reached out to the restaurant chain’s public relations department, with no response as of Wednesday night.

The Carl’s Jr. spot in Arroyo Grande is not the only to close this year.

According to a report by The Los Angeles Times in May, franchisee Sun Gir Incorporated is currently trying to close and sell 59 of its Carl’s Jr. locations in California, most in Southern California. The franchisee filed for bankruptcy protection in April.

It was unclear if the Arroyo Grande restaurant closure was related to the bankruptcy. Ten locations are listed to close, not including the Arroyo Grande location, while 49 unnamed Carl’s Jr. spots were slated to be sold.

The local closure still leaves three other San Luis Obispo County locations up and running: one at 3980 Broad St. in SLO, 7085 El Camino Real in Atascadero and 510 W Teft St. in Nipomo.
