SLO is getting a Eurasian restaurant in a prime downtown spot. Here’s the menu
A new eatery is on the way to San Luis Obispo — and it’ll take over a prime corner downtown.
Uma’s is set to open next month in the former Burger Village spot at 698 Higuera St. at the intersection with Broad Street.
Burger Village closed abruptly in November because the restaurant had struggled post-COVID and faced “challenges” downtown, a media representative told The Tribune at the time.
Now it doesn’t seem the corner location will be vacant for long.
“California ... knows how to party!” Uma’s posted on Instagram in late February. “We are so stoked to announce that we are opening Uma’s flagship location on the beautiful Central Coast of CA in the heart of downtown San Luis Obispo. Stay tuned for grand opening. Go Mustangs!”
Uma’s is a New York-based Eurasian food restaurant chain.
According to its website, it began in Rockaway, New York, in 2013, before growing into “a New York staple.” It eventually added a Puerto Rico restaurant in Isabela.
The San Luis Obispo spot will be its first West Coast location.
Cultures combine on Uma’s menu
So what’s on the menu at Uma’s?
According to its website, the dishes are “inspired by the many diverse cultures found along the Silk Road and beyond, spanning everything from everyday street food to the fine dining traditions of Samarkand.”
Those include bichaki (a popular Central Asian stuffed pastry), scallion pancakes, Korean carrot salad and kimchi salad, borscht, kebabs and dumpling dishes.
The New York restaurant’s menu ranges in price from $5 to $22, though a menu for the San Luis Obispo spot has not yet been released.
An official opening date has also not been announced for the new restaurant, though a video posted on its Instagram said the spot would open in May.
Tribune requests for comment from restaurant leadership were not returned as of Monday evening.
