SLO County smoothie shop closes its doors after 2 years: ‘We hope to be back soon’
After just under two years in business, the Mellow Banana smoothie shop in Arroyo Grande has closed.
In addition to smoothies, the shop offered acai bowls, waffles, toast and coffee.
The shop opened at 1474 East Grand Ave. in April 2022 and was owned by James Clayton and Chantal King. The pair sought to bring healthier breakfast options to SLO County residents.
“We want to make living a healthy lifestyle easy,” King said at the time. “ And so we want to really connect with people in the community and just make it like a fun and simple process. We’re there for connection.”
The owners posted the announcement of the closure on Instagram.
“We are transitioning into a different stage of life and have decided to take a break from business at this time,” the post read. “We hope to be back soon!”
Many customers took to the comment section on their post to wish the owners well and share their sadness about the closure.
“Devastated,” one commenter said. “You guys had the best açai bowls!”
The post did not specify the exact date the closure took effect.
As of Friday afternoon, the owners of Mellow Banana could not be reached for comment.
