SLO cookie dough shop closing after just 6 months: ‘I have had to make the hard decision’
The Dough Connection, a San Luis Obispo treat shop specializing in edible cookie dough, is closing its doors permanently on Dec. 18 after only six months in business, according to a post on the business’ Facebook page.
The San Luis Obispo location first opened downtown in June at 1075 Court St. and was the second brick-and-mortar shop opened by owner April Bodine.
The flagship shop located at 913 Embarcadero in Morro Bay will remain open, according to the post.
“We hoped this second location would be a central place for our customers and locals, but due to circumstances beyond our control, I have had to make the hard decision to close the SLO shop,” the post read. “We will focus our efforts and resources on our Morro Bay location, taking custom orders, catering events and spending time with family.”
Bodine did not respond to Tribune requests for comment on the closure as of Monday.
When interviewed by The Tribune after the San Luis Obispo shop’s grand opening in June, Bodine said business had been slower than she initially hoped, but she was looking to the incoming Cal Poly students in the fall to help boost traffic.
“The downtown SLO area is in a transitional phase,” she said at the time. “A lot of empty spaces are just now getting filled from all the closures during the pandemic. Businesses are trying to figure out how to recover from that.”
The Morro Bay location is open Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, from noon to 7 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m.
