SONIC burger chain is opening its first restaurant in SLO County
SONIC, the national drive-through burger chain, is planning to open its first location in San Luis Obispo County.
The City of Atascadero Design Review Committee is meeting Thursday and will discuss opening a SONIC at the former KFC location across from In N Out, according to the agenda.
The committee will discuss the feasibility of converting the location at 4500 San Palo Road from what was once a KFC drive-through restaurant to a SONIC drive-through.
“While full details and timing are not yet available, I can confirm that we are actively planning a new SONIC location in Atascadero and we hope to open in the back half of 2023,” national public relations director of SONIC Brent Reams said in an email. “We look forward to introducing guests in the Atascadero area to our iconic SONIC menu and our fast and friendly service.”
Until the Atascadero location opens, SLO County residents with a craving for SONIC will have to travel to Bakersfield or Shafter, the current closest locations to the Central Coast.
