Newest addition to SLO County food truck fleet serves up kabobs, falafel and more
For a small, remote corner of San Luis Obispo County, the North Coast has a lot of food trucks offering everything from small-batch ice cream to tacos filled with traditional al pastor pork.
The newest addition to the fleet — the Kabob House truck in San Simeon — adds housemade Mediterranean food to the mix.
The Kabob House truck, which launched in December, serves up kabobs, gyro, falafel and more in San Simeon from noon to 9 Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
George Basili is the sole owner and operator of the Kabob House truck, which he launched in December. He makes the food, mans the truck’s grill, takes the orders and serves up the fare.
“The food is prepared daily,” he said, “all prepped in house.”
As the food is cooked, mouthwatering aromas of the Mediterranean waft out the order and pick-up window.

Kabob House’s menu includes kabobs and sandwiches featuring marinated chicken shawarma, seasoned ground beef, lamb-and-beef gyro, and more.
The menu also includes falafel plates and sandwiches and a hummus sandwich.
Most of the offerings come with rice, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, house-made hummus, garlic sauce and tzatziki yogurt-cucumber sauce. Some meals get pickles, pita, diced red onions and tahini as well. There also are several vegetarian items.
Entree prices range from $16 to $17, and sandwiches sell for $11 or and $12.
Basili said he makes it all from scratch, every day, the way he was taught in his homeland of Syria before he came to the North Coast in 2006.
Baklava is available for dessert.
Because Kabob House’s offerings are all made daily, Basili said, sometimes he has to close a little early because he’s run out of food.
Basili sets up the Kabob House truck at 431 Pico Avenue, adjacent to San Simeon Liquor, a store that sells everything from deli sandwiches and firewood to bait. He’s a longtime partner in the store.
The Kabob Truck and liquor store are the northernmost businesses in the tiny community, on the inland side of Highway 1. They’re across the highway and slightly north of Cavalier Oceanfront Resort.
