A popular Bay Area chain opened its first San Luis Obispo County restaurant in April, and more Central Coast locations are next.

Mountain Mike’s Pizza in Atascadero is owned by Tiger Foods & Hospitality, which is managed by Atascadero locals Gary Grewal and Raj Singh, according to a news release.

The North County location is part of an agreement signed by Tiger Foods & Hospitality to develop more Mountain Mike’s Pizza locations throughout the Central Coast of California, the release said.

The business partners plan to open at least three more Mountain Mike’s pizzerias as part of the deal — in Arroyo Grande, Lompoc and Santa Ynez.

“After being introduced to Mountain Mike’s Pizza for the first time several years ago, I instantly knew it was a brand I wanted to stand behind, partner with and deliver to my own local community in the Central California Coast,” Grewal said in the release.

Located at 9006 West Front Road in Atascadero, Mountain Mike’s Pizza covers more than 3,000 square feet and was designed with sports fans in mind, the release said.

The pizzeria has six big-screen televisions, a 500-square-foot patio, a kids’ arcade and a private event space.

The building, between Holiday Inn Express and Starbucks on West Front Road, previously housed Marston’s 101.

The first Mountain Mike’s Pizza location opened in Palo Alto in 1978 and has expanded to include more than 250 locations throughout the Western United States, according to the Mountain Mike’s website.

There was a Mountain Mike’s Pizza located in Grover Beach back in 1982, but the brand has changed significantly since then and the Central Coast is still considered a new market for the franchise, a spokeswoman for the brand said.

Grewal said he was drawn to the fresh and high-quality ingredients that go into the California-style pizzas served at Mountain Mike’s.

Mountain Mike’s Pizza is known for its “legendary crispy, curly pepperoni” and unique pizza flavors such as Sizzlin’ Bacon, Chicken Club and Mt. Veggiemore.

The menu stays consistent throughout Mountain Mike’s Pizza locations.

Mountain Mike’s Pizza in Atascadero is open 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
