A popular Bay Area pizza place will open its first location in San Luis Obispo County this spring.

Mountain Mike’s Pizza is set to debut its new restaurant in Atascadero in April. It also has two locations in Santa Maria.

The restaurant is coming to the south end of the city and will take over the space on West Front Road that was previously occupied by Marston’s 101, between Holiday Inn Express and Starbucks.

Marston’s 101 closed on New Year’s Eve 2019 after financial difficulties and a civil lawsuit with their landlord, according to a past Tribune report.

Mountain Mike’s started in Palo Alto in 1978. The family-friendly restaurant has since expanded to more than 200 restaurants across the West with locations in California, Utah, Oregon and Nevada, according to the Mountain Mike’s website.

The franchise partners for the Atascadero location are Gubir “Gary” Grewal and Jagraj Singh, according to the restaurant’s marketing firm.

Mountain Mike’s serves standard pizza fare, including the “legendary crispy, curly pepperoni” and some other unique pies like the Chicken Club and Sizzlin’ Bacon, according to the website.

The restaurant also offers salads, wings, sandwiches and desserts, and the menu stays consistent between locations.
