New downtown SLO restaurant goes bold with Cambodian-inspired tapas, tacos
A new restaurant featuring Cambodian food with tapas, wine and cocktails has launched in downtown San Luis Obispo.
Kult, located at 1035 Chorro St. near Luna Red and Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa, held its soft opening in September, according to its Facebook page.
Kult was founded by Nino and Cher Eng, owners of Nite Creamery ice cream shops in San Luis Obispo and Santa Maria. The Engs didn’t respond to Tribune requests for comment about the new business opening.
The restaurant seeks to “bring ethnic and bold flavors from family recipes along with influence” from the cultural backgrounds of Nino Eng and his sister Pie, according to the Kult website.
Menu items include Khmer-influenced tapas, wraps, tacos and skewers, plus sake, wine and cocktails, the website says.
The restaurant said customers should expect “bold and unique flavors, thoughtful textures, and high quality ingredients with consistent notes of sweet, sour, and spice,” Kult’s website notes.
All foods are made in house from scratch, with no artificial ingredients, the site said, adding that “All our beef and poultry are pasture raised and free range.”
“All menu items are served ‘as is’ with no major modifications allowed,” the Kult website notes. “We will deny any request that will alter the cultural integrity of any dish at Kult.”
Kult exclusively serves wines from Daou Family Estates in Paso Robles.
The restaurant is open 5 to 10 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. For more information, call 805-439-0118 or go to kultslo.com.
