Urbane Cafe is close to opening its second SLO County spot. Here’s when and where

Urbane Cafe has confirmed the opening date for its new Arroyo Grande location — its second spot in San Luis Obispo County.

What’s more, you’ll have a chance to sample the popular Southern California sandwich chain’s offerings ahead of time.

According to a news release, Urbane Cafe will officially open its new restaurant at 924 Rancho Parkway at 11 a.m on Nov. 8.

Before that, Urbane Cafe will hold a week of giveaways, fundraisers and meals, starting Nov. 5.

Those include pre-grand opening VIP fundraisers on Nov. 5 and Nov. 6 benefiting the Rotary Club of Arroyo Grande, YMCA, Exploration Discovery Center and Arroyo Grande Community Hospital Foundation. Urbane Cafe will match 100% of the funds donated by patrons on these days, the company said.

Guests can sign up for a special invitation to the events at UrbaneCafe.eventbrite.com.

During the grand opening Nov. 8, the first 100 guests in line will receive a free meal and a chance to spin a wheel for special giveaways.

After opening, the Arroyo Grande Urbane Cafe will provide free meals to teachers and education staff on Nov. 9 and health care workers on Nov. 10.

On Nov. 11, the restaurant will randomly pass out golden tickets throughout the community that are good for free meals on Nov. 12.

Urbane Cafe is taking over the former Starbucks location on Rancho Parkway near the Regal Cinemas movie theater.

The coffee shop quietly closed during the pandemic in July 2020 when a new Starbucks with a drive-through opened just down the road. Since then, that space in the small shopping center, which includes a Jamba Juice, T-Mobile and Poke Morro, has sat vacant.

Urbane Cafe, which advertises itself as a “a fast, affordable restaurant serving delicious gourmet sandwiches and fresh, healthy salads,” was founded in Ventura in 2003. Since then the company has grown across Southern California and into the Central Coast, with locations in San Diego, Los Angeles, Bakersfield and Santa Maria, among others.

Urbane Cafe’s first San Luis Obispo County location remains open at 952 Higuera St. in San Luis Obispo.
