Popular Southern California sandwich chain is opening its second SLO County location
A new Urbane Cafe is opening in Arroyo Grande next month, in a spot that has sat empty for more than a year.
The popular Southern California sandwich chain is taking over the former Starbucks location at 924 Rancho Parkway near the Regal Cinemas movie theater. The coffee shop quietly closed during the pandemic in July 2020 when a new Starbucks with a drive-through opened just down the road.
Since then, that space in the small shopping center, which includes a Jamba Juice, T-Mobile and Poke Morro, has sat vacant.
New signs began popping up around the center this month, declaring Urbane Cafe will open in Fall 2021.
The company announced on Facebook that the new location will open in November, though a specific opening date has not been announced.
The restaurant is also in the process of hiring for the new spot and plans to host a job fair Thursday from noon to 6 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the restaurant, according to a Facebook post Monday.
A request for comment from the company for more details on the new location was not returned Tuesday.
Urbane Cafe, a Panera Bread-style fast food eatery, was founded in Ventura in 2003. Since then it has grown across Southern California and into the Central Coast, with locations in San Diego, Los Angeles, Bakersfield and Santa Maria, among others.
The Arroyo Grande location will be the second in San Luis Obispo County. The first is located at 952 Higuera St. in San Luis Obispo.
