Looking for lunch in Atascadero? You’re in luck.

A Mexican-style meat market just moved into the former Tastee Freeze building at 8950 Montecito Ave.

Suprema Meat Market, which opened July 24, sells cuts of chicken, pork, seafood and Harris Ranch beef, which business partner Alexis Lopez described as the highest quality meat in California.

Customers can chose from about 10 different house-made marinades for their meat, in addition to ready-to-cook items such as fajitas and carne asada.

The market also offers fresh produce, snacks and hot meals from its taqueria.

Lopez said he and his fellow business partners, Gerado Lopez and Leonel Baraja had always wanted to open a meat market. They noticed Atascadero didn’t have one, and decided to set up shop in the city.

“We just want to bring a little flavor to this town,” Alexis Lopez said. “We welcome everybody to come try our food.”

New Atascadero meat market serves up burritos, tacos

Suprema Meat Market’s taqueria offers everything from tacos and burritos to barbacoa.

One of Lopez’s favorite offerings is carnitas, a Mexican pork dish.

On Saturdays and Sundays, the market sells handmade tortillas.

Suprema Meat Market prepares its food fresh each morning, Lopez said, noting that the taqueria has sold out every day since it opened.

On Thursday, he said, the business closed the taqueria at 7 p.m. instead of 9 p.m. because it ran out of ingredients.

Lopez said Suprema Meat Market is a popular lunch spot for Atascadero State Hospital employees that work nearby, adding that the business is hiring chefs so they can cook more food during the lunch rush.

Lopez said the taqueria’s recipes have been passed down through generations of family.

“It’s literal authentic Mexican food,” he said. “All of our recipes come straight from Mexico.”

Suprema Meat Market is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
