Want a free lunch? SLO law firm will treat you to a $25 meal to help local restaurants

It turns out, there is such thing as a free lunch — and this one can help a struggling restaurant.

A California law firm with an office in San Luis Obispo is offering the public up to $25 to help support local restaurants statewide that have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.

The May Firm is donating $10,000 to encourage people to order takeout or delivery food.

People can order from a local restaurant in SLO County, or from an eatery anywhere in the state of California, and then fill out a form and submit a photo of their receipt to the following website: www.mayfirm.com/local-restaurant-relief-fund.

Reimbursements will be made through PayPal or Venmo and will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

The program will continue until the $10,000 donation fund has been used up, which adds up to 400 meal orders.

The firm is allowing people to order at any restaurant, even a chain, said Dan Steiner, the firm’s marketing manager.

“We’re not going to discriminate,” Steiner said. “Many chains are franchised and locally owned. Money spent in the community is still a win.”

The campaign aims to give a boost to local restaurants, many of which have experienced declines of as much as 75% to 90% of their business. Some have been forced to close their storefronts, or only serve customers with delivery and take-out.

“Restaurants are getting hit very hard with the stay-at-home orders,” Robert May, the firm’s founder, said in a press release. “Yet, it is possible to help. COVID-19 has impacted all of our lives. At The May Firm, we’ve adjusted to a new reality where we work remotely to help our clients pursue justice after getting hurt. But, working remotely isn’t a viable option for some businesses.”

The firm will only reimburse one meal per person or household to help as many small businesses and people as possible.

The May Firm is a personal injury law firm that specializes in accident and personal injury cases. It also has offices in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, Fresno, Chula Vista, Long Beach and Bakersfield.
