Update: These SLO County restaurants are open, offering special curbside pickup or delivery
Editor’s note: This list will be updated once each week in advance of Takeout Tuesday. The latest update was at 6:30 p.m. May 11.
Local restaurants are suffering as they have had to transition to delivery, takeout and curbside pickup in effort to maintain business while tamping down the spread of coronavirus.
San Luis Obispo County ordered a shelter at home mandate March 18 that required all restaurants to close their dine-in areas, and Gov. Gavin Newsom announced earlier this month that eateries still won’t be allowed to offer dine-in as part of an initial “Stage 2 reopening” plan. Dine-in will be part of a later Stage 2 opening.
More than 30 restaurants told The Tribune that they have had to reduce their employees’ hours or lay off staff altogether, and there are likely many others countywide in the same position. Several restaurants reported that their sales have dropped by 50% to 90%. And some said they are unsure of how long they will be able to continue.
Many restaurants in San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles are offering delivery through services including Food Jets.
Smaller towns like Morro Bay, Avila Beach and Arroyo Grande have fewer options, but some restaurants offer through GrubHub or Postmates. Several local restaurants are providing their own delivery during this public health emergency.
Multiple communities have posted lists and maps of restaurants that are open as well, including: San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Templeton, Atascadero and Morro Bay.
