Ready to rock? Avila Beach Blues Festival is returning after 2-year COVID break
One of the Central Coast’s biggest music festivals is returning this Memorial Day weekend after a two-year hiatus.
The Avila Beach Blues Festival will be held Sunday, May 29, at the Avila Beach Golf Resort, according to a Monday news release.
This year’s all-ages outdoor concert will feature performances by blues rockers George Thorogood & The Destroyers, making their festival debut, as well as funk rock band War. Tommy Castro & the Painkillers will return to Avila Beach to open the show.
Organizers invite music lovers to “watch world-class entertainment under the afternoon sky with the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean.”
The 27th annual Avila Beach Blues Festival was originally slated for Memorial Day weekend in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic scuttled those plans. Organizers rescheduled the event for May 2021, only to delay the festival once again due to health and safety concerns.
“This year continues the tradition of the biggest and longest running blues festival on the Central Coast, with top-name entertainment against the backdrop of the Pacific Ocean,” the release said. “This is the party that kicks off the outdoor concert season!”
The 2022 Avila Beach Blues Festival begins at 2 p.m. and continues until sunset, with gates opening at noon.
Advance tickets for the rain-or-shine show are $55 for general admission lawn seating and $75 to $110 for reserved seating, and can be purchased at otterproductionsinc.com. Children 7 and under are free for lawn seating when accompanied by ticket-paying adults, with one child per paid adult.
Beer, wine, cocktails and snacks will be available for purchase. No outside food or beverages are allowed, the release said.
Concergoers are also banned from bringing in pets, umbrellas or high-backed chairs. Low-backed lawn chairs and blankets are allowed in the lawn seating area.
Pre-paid parking is included with ticket purchases.
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, according to the release.
