Where can you get the best tri-tip in SLO County? Vote in our poll now
Few things are more iconic on the Central Coast than tri-tip.
Whether you eat it with barbecue sauce or salsa, that oh-so-delicious triangular cut of beef is an institution in San Luis Obispo County.
In the interest of stirring up age-old rivalries, and potentially starting a local BBQ battle, The Tribune wants to know: Who has the best tri-tip in SLO County?
A few ground rules for our meaty showdown: All of the eateries on this list have tri-tip highlighted on their menu, whether in plate or sandwich format. They all have at least one Yelp review praising their take on tri-tip. And they are all SLO County or Central Coast-specific spots — no chain restaurants allowed.
The almost 50 spots that made the list include restaurants ranging as far north as Paso Robles and as far south as Nipomo. They run the gamut of old-school Santa Maria-style barbecue places to new establishments with a hot take on this iconic dish.
This week, vote for your top three spots in the poll below.
Voting will close on the first round at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, and we will compile the top 10 contenders to vie for the title of Tri-Tip Champion.
You’re welcome to vote as many times as you like for your favorite spot. Make sure to get your friends and family in on the fun as well!

Happy voting, SLO County!
