Want to see a movie for $3?

Several Central Coast movie theaters are celebrating National Cinema Day on Saturday with bargain ticket prices not seen since 1982.

According to the National Cinema Day website, moviegoers can enjoy $3 tickets for “every movie, every showtime, every format” at participating cineplexes.

That price doesn’t include taxes or “online and/or third-party ticketing fees,” the site noted.

Thousands of movie theaters are participating in the Cinema Foundation’s nationwide effort to drum up sales as the industry struggles to recover a big drop in moviegoing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participating San Luis Obispo County theaters include Downtown Centre Cinemas in San Luis Obispo, the newly renamed Colony Cinemas in Atascadero, Park Cinemas in Paso Robles and Regal Cinemas in Arroyo Grande.

In northern Santa Barbara County, the Regal Edwards movie theater in the Santa Maria Town Center mall is also offering $3 tickets on Saturday.

Movies screening locally this weekend include the Elvis Presley biopic “Elvis,” horror film “The Invitation,” action movie “Bullet Train” and kids flicks “Minions: The Rise of Gru” and “DC League of Superpets,” as well as the comedy “Honk for Jesus. Save Your Soul.”

There are also re-releases of high-flying action flick ““Top Gun: Maverick” and superhero blockbuster “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

For more information, including showtimes, check local listings or visit nationalcinemaday.org.
