California Mid-State Fair kicks off in Paso Robles. See pictures, video of opening day
The California Mid-State Fair kicked off Wednesday with a full day of fun.
Folks flocked to the Paso Robles fairgrounds to enjoy free carnival rides, watch the Miss California Mid-State Fair scholarship pageant and catch country music star Tim McGraw in concert at the Grandstand Arena.
McGraw performed at the Paso Robles fair for the eighth time.
Other big-name acts lined up to perform at the fair this summer include Pitbull, Luke Bryan, Nelly, Sammy Hagar, Lauren Daigle and Parker McCollum. The fair’s popular Evening of Music and Wine event will feature Styx.
During a ceremony at the 805 Beer Frontier Stage, Kerrigan Jensen was crowned Miss California Mid-State Fair. Jenna Wilshusen was named first runner-up and Natalie Boyd was second runner-up.
Forecast calls for a hot weather
As in past years, fairgoers can expect scorching heat for at least a few days.
The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for interior valleys and mountains of San Luis Obispo County from 10 a.m. Thursday to 10 a.m. Friday with high temperatures of 95 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit predicted.
There’s an excessive heat watch in effect Friday morning through Saturday evening, the agency said. Highs could reach 108 degrees during that period.
How to get tickets to the fair
The Mid-State Fair runs through July 30 at the Paso Robles Event Center, 2198 Riverside Ave. in Paso Robles.
The fairgrounds will be open from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 12 midnight Friday.
