5 things to do on Mid-State Fair’s opening day
Parade on the midway, 4 p.m.
The “Biggest Little Parade” will help to kick off this year’s California Mid-State Fair and illustrate the “Come One, Come All” theme.
Talent show, 5 p.m.
Something you can only catch on the first day: The talent show. Cheer on your favorite participants at the Headliner Stage.
Watermelon-eating contest, 6 p.m.
Show up at 5:45 p.m. in the new Rancho Frontier area to sign up for this first-come, first-served contest. Participants must be at least 7 years old to compete.
Lionel Richie with Stanaj, 7:30 p.m.
With an Oscar, a Golden Globe and four Grammy Awards to his credit, Lionel Richie is a music icon. His special guest will be Los Angeles-based vocalist Stanaj. Tickets for the Chumash Grandstand Arena show start at $51.
Blue Öyster Cult, 6:30 and 8:30 p.m.
Blue Öyster Cult has been entertaining fans for more than four decades with hits such as “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and “Burnin’ for You.” This Frontier Stage show is free with paid fair admission.
