Looking for family fun? Circus Vargas is back in SLO with a brand-new show

A day after the summer solstice, the circus came to San Luis Obispo.

On Wednesday, Circus Vargas pitched its large blue tent at Madonna Meadows in San Luis Obispo alongside Highway 101 — a welcome sight for fans who enjoy watching the spectacle of trapeze artists and contortionists while enjoying a fluffy cloud of cotton candy.

The circus officially kicks off its Central Coast stay on Friday, with performances running through July 11.

This year, Circus Vargas is offering a new, two-hour show called “The Circus Vargas Express.”

According to a news release, the show features performers from across the globe coming together to “create the most exciting and entertaining extravaganza imaginable.”

In store are clowns, jugglers, aerial acrobats and stunt riders, among others, according to Circus Vargas’ website

According to Katya Quiroga, Circus Vargas co-owner and CEO, Circus Vargas aims to celebrate its diversity of its cast, noting that performers come from as far away as Argentina and the Czech Republic.

“We are like our own mini United-Nations here,” Quiroga said in the release. “Everyone will get a taste of the different countries represented and enjoy two hours of thrills and excitement.”

Circus Vargas has been coming to San Luis Obispo for several years and is popular with families. In previous years, the circus has offered a flying trapeze workshop as well as summer camp performances for kids.

Performances are offered almost daily from Friday to July 11. The circus will take a break on Tuesdays and on Wednesday, July 6.

Tickets range from $19 to $75 and are available to purchase online at circusvargas.com/tickets, via phone at 877-468-3861 or at the on-location box office. Show times can be found in the circus’ website.
