Original story:

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday afternoon released photos of a suspect they believe was involved in a series of early-morning shootings that killed a homeless man and injured a deputy.

The man — who has not yet been identified — is accused of attacking the Paso Robles Police Department at about 3 a.m. and then ambushing sheriff’s deputies. The man was first seen on surveillance cameras lurking outside the station, before he began shooting at the building. He then shot at two sheriff’s deputies who responded to the incident, hitting one in the face.

The deputy is in serious but stable condition at a hospital outside the county.

The suspect also may have killed a 58-year-old homeless man who was found dead with a single gunshot wound to the back of the head, near the railroad tracks north of the city’s train station.

Surveillance video footage shows the man entering the lobby of two Paso Robles businesses: the Piccolo hotel and Street Side Ale House.

Managers at Piccolo and Street Side could not immediately be reached for comment. Sheriff’s spokesman Tony Cipolla declined to say whether the suspect stayed at the hotel.

Sheriff’s officials described the suspect as a Hispanic man in his 20s or 30s, standing about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing between 150 and 160 pounds.

Anyone with information about the ambush, the homicide or the suspect’s whereabouts is encouraged to call the Paso Robles Police Department at 805-237-6464, the county Sheriff’s Office at 805-781-4450 or Crime Stoppers at 805-549-7867.
