Soda Fire in California Valley stopped at 1,150 acres
Update 5:30 p.m.:
Forward progress on the fire has been stopped at 1,150 acres, according to Cal Fire.
It is 50% contained as of Wednesday evening. Resources used to fight the blaze included nine engines, two bulldozers, two water tenders, three air tankers, one helicopter, one air attack plane and 3three hand crews.
The Atascadero Fire Department, Atascadero State Hospital Fire Department and the Los Padres National Forest all assisted.
The fire’s cause is under investigation.
Update 4:40 p.m.:
Cal Fire says good progress is being made toward containing the Soda Fire.
Update, 3:06 p.m.:
The Soda Fire has jumped to 500 acres, less than two hours after erupting in the area of Highway 58.
Cal Fire is sending additional resources to a new blaze south of the first one, according to a tweet at 3 p.m. That fire is about four acres with a slow rate of spread. It is threatening two structures.

A vegetation fire is burning in California Valley near Highway 58.
According to Cal Fire, the Soda Fire is currently 50 acres, with a potential to grow to 200 acres. There is a threat to one structure.
The blaze in eastern San Luis Obispo County has a moderate rate of spread, according to Cal Fire.
The fire broke out around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, and burned on both sides of Highway 58 near Soda Lake Road.
Additional resources have been requested to help fight the blaze.
