Be active to support a woman’s right to choose

As we mark the 43rd anniversary of the landmark Roe v. Wade decision guaranteeing women the right to control our own reproductive health, I am dismayed by how that constitutional right has been eroded and restricted, to the point that this term the U.S. Supreme Court will hear a case that might overturn the foundational framework of that basic women’s health right altogether.

It is ever more important that those of us who support a woman’s right to choose become more active and public about our support. More than half of the population in the United States agrees abortion should be legal. We need to point out to others the horrors of botched back-alley abortions when women weren’t able to obtain a legal procedure, something fortunately unknown to almost two generations of American women. Point out the economic consequences of increased family size when the family income cannot support more children, and the devastation that causes in our society. Point out the bias behind all those restrictions — that women should not have equal rights to control our own bodies.

Coming from our GOP right, they who would save us from the Muslims, it’s ironic at best and scary at worst!
