South County Supervisor Lynn Compton is the new chairwoman of the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors and Supervisor Adam Hill is the new vice chairman. The board unanimously approved the changes at its meeting Tuesday.

Compton replaces Supervisor Debbie Arnold, who chaired the board for almost all of 2015. She said being the chair of the board was an honor and will be a source of pride for the rest of her life. Unlike a year ago, the transition of power was uneventful.

At the beginning of 2015, Supervisor Frank Mecham was elected chairman with Hill as vice chairman. However, members of the public complained that Arnold had been passed over for the vice chair spot and accused supervisors of sexism.

Mecham then voluntarily stepped down and nominated Arnold and Compton as chair and vice chair. That arrangement was approved with a 3-2 vote with Hill and Supervisor Bruce Gibson voting no.
