SLO man arrested after car drives off Cuesta Grade, plunges into ravine
A San Luis Obispo man was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon after driving across Highway 101 on the Cuesta Grade, through a fence and into a ravine.
Kenneth G. Munn, 30, allegedly fell asleep while driving south on the highway near Old Stage Coach Road, CHP Sgt. Diego Flores said.
Munn drifted across the road, through an area without a median and onto the northbound side of the highway, Flores said. Munn then crashed through a brick fence outside Del Vaglio Real Estate and landed in a ravine near San Luis Obispo Creek.
Munn got out of the car and fled, Flores said, but was identified by witnesses and apprehended by CHP officers. The driver suffered minor lacerations and was taken into custody on an unrelated felony warrant, Flores said.
Flores said Munn was not intoxicated at the time of the crash and was the vehicle’s only occupant.
Witnesses watching Munn’s car being towed out of the ravine said that Munn seemed OK after he escaped from his vehicle but appeared determined to flee the scene of the crash.
The incident remains under investigation.
