Folk duo Mike + Ruthy to appear at Coalesce Bookstore

Mike Merenda and Ruth Ungar, known on stage as Mike + Ruthy, will perform at Coalesce Bookstore on Friday, April 15, as part of the SLOfolks concert series.

Show time is 7 p.m., and tickets are priced at $20 each.

The married couple were founding members of the folk-rock band the Mammals in 2001 and also perform together as a duo.

Ungar, the daughter of Grammy-winning fiddler Jay Ungar, is a fiddler herself who also plays ukulele and sings. Merenda is a songwriter who plays guitar and clawhammer banjo.

In February, they opened for the B-52s at the Capitol Theatre in New York, and they’re touring in support of their latest album, the 14-track “Bright as You Can,” described by The Boston Globe as “one of the year’s standout Americana albums.”

Their previous releases include “Waltz of the Chickadee” (2009) and “Honeymoon Agenda” (2007).

Book signing

Former fighter pilot Ed Cobleigh will appear at Coalesce Bookstore in Morro Bay on Saturday, April 16, to sign copies of his novel “The Pilot: Fighter Planes and Paris” from 2 to 4 p.m.

The author, a Paso Robles resident, earned his wings with the U.S. Air Force and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel. He was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses and the Air Medal for his service during the Vietnam War. He also has instructed fighter pilots in the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, Royal Air Force and French Air Force.

“The Pilot” continues the journey begun in his first book, “War for the Hell of It.”
