Fire at Camp Roberts burns 1,500 acres

Firefighters from Cal Fire and Camp Roberts Fire battled a 1,500-acre blaze from the air and the ground Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters responded about 2:30 p.m. to a vegetation fire near the National Guard post. Cal Fire bulldozers, fire engines and airplanes assisted, according to Cal Fire.

The blaze was not part of a scheduled controlled fire, although a burn was scheduled for Thursday in another area, according to Suzie Thomas, a Camp Roberts spokeswoman.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
