Oceano porch fire scorches house, breaks window

Five Cities firefighters on Thursday afternoon were able to prevent a porch fire from causing serious damage to an Oceano studio residence.

Responders arrived at the residence, located behind a home in the 2300 block of Paso Robles Street, around 2:30 p.m. to find the porch on fire. Resident Raun Bruenning said he heard what sounded like wind and looked outside to find the porch on fire. He evacuated the residence with his pets and called 911.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze, which didn’t extend to the interior of the residence, said Chief Steve Lieberman of Five Cities Fire Authority.

Flames scorched the exterior of the studio and heat from the fire caused a window to buckle and break, Lieberman said. The fire also destroyed a fence and patio furniture.

No one was injured in the blaze. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
