The San Luis Obispo Regional Transit Authority has launched a new GPS-based app that will enable riders to find out when buses are due to arrive.

The Transit Tracker online system and mobile app, both of which are free to use, will tell users where their bus is in real time and when it will arrive at their stop, according to a news release from RTA. Riders can search for routes on the RTA system as well as for Paso Express and South County Transit (SCT) buses.

To use the new tracker system, riders can go to www.slorta.org/ride-guide/transit-tracker, download the free app, or text their bus stop number to the Tracker Transit phone number at 541-4782 to receive a text telling them how many minutes their bus is from that stop.

New LCD screens and automated stop announcements are being added to buses, and major bus stops will soon have a LED or LCD screen showing bus arrival times, according to RTA.

The RTA system carries more than 1 million riders a year, Executive Director Geoff Straw said.
