A car engine fire slowed traffic about 7:45 a.m. Monday on northbound Highway 101 in Pismo Beach, south of Price Street.

No one was in the car, which was pulled over to the left side of the freeway in the median when the photo was taken, and two people were standing in the median behind the car.

Just before this, there was a single loud pop, and the flames coming from the engine area grew larger. Police had not yet arrived.
