Correction: This article has been corrected to reflect that, as of Wednesday morning, Vargas Ramirez was in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.

Two young girls were sexually molested while playing at San Miguel Community Park on Sunday evening, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Tuesday.

Paublo Vargas Ramirez Sr., 58, of San Miguel was arrested on suspicion of several felony counts of lewd acts with a child under 14 and another felony count of lewd acts with a child under 14 by force.

The Sheriff’s Office said in a news release that the two children, ages 8 and 5, were playing in the park on the 1200 block of K Street, with their families, around 8:50 p.m. They were resting on a park bench when Vargas Ramirez, a family friend who was also sitting on the bench, began to fondle the girls, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The girls walked away and continued to play in the park, but Vargas Ramirez allegedly walked up and exposed himself and forced his hand into one of the girl’s underwear, the Sheriff’s Office said.

The girls told their parents about the incident later that night, the Sheriff’s Office said.

As of Wednesday morning, Vargas Ramirez remained in custody at the San Luis Obispo County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
